Former Southend United winger Julian Hails today backed his old team-mate, Shrimpers manager Rob Newman, to get it right at Roots Hall.
The Seasiders have made a poor start to the new Third Division season, taking just one point from their three opening games.
But the ex-Southend Player of the Year, who made 179 appearances for the club, said Newman will soon lift Blues back up the table.
"Rob is the best man for the job," said 34-year-old Hails, whose career was ended by a knee injury two years ago.
"He is just the sort of manager I wish I could have played for as his knowledge of the game, experience and enthusiasm are second to none.
"Rob was always a great leader when I played with him on the pitch and I am sure he is exactly the same on the training ground."
