A retired businessman today urged Castle Point to get serious with its rubbish and build a revolutionary recycling plant that turns refuse into compost.
Bill Bunting, of Manor Road, Benfleet, spoke after seeing the success of a similar scheme in Kentucky, United States.
Bill's pal, businessman Alan Partner, is the European agent for Real Earth, the company which runs the Kentucky processing plant.
Alan lives in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and has already been inundated with inquiries from councils hoping to recycle more.
Bill, 65, said: "What's great about this recycling system is that much of the rubbish is turned into compost.
"The plant would be built on a site around ten or 15 acres."
He added: "I've approached the council to ask what they think of the idea - but I'm told they're having a meeting in September to look at waste strategy and will only make decisions after that time."
The recycling system has been applauded because no chemicals are used.
