Injury-plagued Colchester United favourite Joe Dunne's has volunteered to forfeit a month's wages in a bid to save his career.
Dunne is currently recovering at his Kent home after the latest of a number of operations on his legs.
He said: "I am currently operating on a monthly contract so I have put forward the idea of forfeiting my wages for September to remain at home and give myself the best chance.
"There is no telling what damage I could cause during my rehab programme if I am having to drive an hour-and-a-half each way to and from training every day.
"The manager and the club have agreed to my offer and I remain positive that I will be back."
