Two homes in the same street have been targeted by burglars while the occupants were asleep inside.
At the first, a house in Surbiton Road, Southend, burglars got in through a window which had been left open on the ground floor.
Once an untidy search had been carried out, a mobile phone, cash, stereo system and keys to a car outside were stolen, together worth £440.
Although a £6,000 car was stolen from outside the house, it was later recovered.
A further creeper burglary took place at a flat in the same street, using the same method of climbing through an open window.
This time a DVD player was taken, along with other goods.
