Manningtree could still get its own council office if groups from the area help out.
That was the message from Lionel Randall at last night's meeting of Lawford Parish Council.
Tendring Council has turned down the idea of a council office at the former Foundry Court, as it felt it would be too costly.
But talks are continuing with Colne Housing Association to see if another solution can be found. One idea is to use money from the Market Towns' Initiative project, which has thousands of pounds to hand out.
Mr Randall said: "The idea is to establish a community centre for organisations, it does look a distinct possibility. It would be quite a large office for us."
