Team captain Darren Hayden-Ball, Luke Jackman and Graham Warner - all from East Tilbury - will be going for glory in this Friday night's episode of Robot Wars on BBC2.
Darren said: "It all started four years ago when we met at Ford's Thameside Technical Training Centre, completing four-year engineering apprenticeships.
TV hope - Luke Jackman, Darren Hayden-Ball and Graham Warner with their robot Picture: DAVE HENDERSON
"We had watched this strange programme on BBC2 one evening and decided we could do better. From that point on we were hooked."
Their first robot - Scutters' Revenge - was an all-aluminium six-wheel drive bulldozer.
Darren says of Spawn Again, the machine which will be seen on Friday night in the fifth series of Robot Wars: "Again we have an aluminium box sectional chassis with four-wheel drive.
"But it's much faster and it has a 1,000psi pneumatic flipper run from a CO2 fire extinguisher capable of lifting around 1,000kg."
