Maldon boss Mick Potter is keeping his fingers crossed for a warm reception when he makes an emotional return to Rush Green Bowl.

The former Seasiders chief - now joint-manager at Park Drive alongside Colin Wallington - enjoyed success in the premier division, an FA Cup run and glory in the Jewson League Cup during his spell with the coastal side.

And he hopes those achievements plus his infectious, never-say-die approach from the sidelines will help make his return a memorable one.

Speaking ahead of tonight's big Essex derby, Potter told the Evening Gazette: "I'm thoroughly looking forward to the game and it promises to be a really emotional night.

"I loved every minute of my time at Clacton. We had some real highs and I hope the fans remember that and give me a warm reception."

Potter resigned as Clacton boss at the end of last season, before agreeing to become joint manager at Maldon.

Former Clacton players Shane Bailey, Lee Hunter, Simon Roberts, Neil Stanbridge and Neil Shade all of whom followed Potter to Maldon will also be making swift returns to the Bowl.
