Chelmsford were second best for long periods against newly-promoted Chippenham, beginning the season with a 3-1 defeat.

Chip, making their debut in the Dr Martens Premier, were off to a flying start as polished link-up work between Steve Tweedle and Martin Paul set Steve Brown through to score on six minutes.

The lead was doubled on 23 as former Bath City striker Martin Paul headed in when left unmarked.

Chippenham were well worth their advantage, though City managed to reduce the arrears just after the half-hour mark as Sam Keevil beat Paul Thompson.

Though with Gareth Davies starring in defence for Town, it was little wonder that City failed to create further chances, and the points were secured fifteen minutes from time as Brown this time played the role of provider, feeding Tweedle who notched the third.

A tough season in store for the Clarets, though they'll look to get off the mark this coming Monday when Hinckley United are the visitors to New Lodge.
