Two robbers attacked a 30-year-old man and stole his sports bag full of clothes.
The Chelmsford man was in the town's Central Park when one of the robbers ran at him and hit him on the back of the head.
A police spokesman said the victim saw a man appear at his side and then another behind him.
He added: "One said 'surprise' and then ran at him holding a blunt object, which looked like a wooden bat.
"He was then hit from behind and fell to the floor and then got hit by the same object by the second man."
The victim received a small cut to the back of his head and a small cut on his right cheek.
Both attackers then ran off, taking the man's sports bag, which had a Guinness logo on it, containing about £80 worth of sports clothes, including trainers and a T-shirt.
The attack happened just before 1am on Saturday, August 10.
The first attacker is described as white, 6ft tall, over 18 and of medium build.
He was wearing a dark-hooded jumper, dark trousers and a light-coloured scarf covering his face.
The second attacker was thought to be about 5ft 8ins, white and wearing a dark woollen hat.
Information to Chelmsford police on 01245 491212.
