Youngsters and firefighters battled it out to see who could stay the driest during a fun water fight at a Canvey sports centre.
Staff at the island's Waterside Farm in Somnes Avenue invited crews from Canvey fire station to join in the fun after hearing the firefighters would be visiting the complex for their physical training exercises at the same time as young sports enthusiasts would be holding their annual water fight.
The longed-for event is laid on by the centre every summer as a thank you to the children who have taken part in the gym and football clubs at Waterside over the last year.
However, this was the first time fire officers had been invited along and around 80 youngsters turned up to be drenched by the crews, who had brought along a water jet.
