A 16-year-old student was robbed of his mobile phone by a youth who may have been armed with a knife.

The student was in Queensway, Southend, when he was approached in a bus shelter.

A spokesman for Southend police said: "The suspect began to engage the victim in conversation. He then produced a silver-coloured item from his pocket, around one inch long, and the victim believed this to be a knife. He told the student to hand over his mobile phone, which he did."

Police want to trace a slim, white, youth aged 17 to 19. He had short mousey brown hair in a curtain-style.
