A frightened stray cat driven from Brentwood to Romford under the bonnet of a car decided its home town was best - so it set out and walked back.
A Brentwoood woman, who does not wish to be named, couldn't believe it when she spotted the feline who sleeps in her garden, dashing away from her vehicle as she parked up for work.
Efforts to catch the fluffy white cat failed and it looked as if the homeless Brentwood stray was destined for a life on the streets of Romford.
But the woman was amazed when she spotted the roving feline back in his favourite spot in her Brentwood back garden later that night.
She was positive it was the same cat because of its distinctive tail - plus it was still covered in dirt and engine grease.
She said: "I was quite astounded."
