THE Shrimpers are still searching for their first win of the new campaign after going down to their second Roots Hall defeat in four days.

On Tuesday night Carlisle United took all the points with a 1-0 win, and this time it was the Shropshire outfit who left the Blues with a single point from the nine on offer so far this term.

Left-winger Neil Jenkins gave Southend the perfect start, finding the net with a volley after nine minutes.

But Shrews striker Luke Rodgers levelled five minutes before half-time. He then gave the visitors the lead in the 56th minute.

Shrewsbury extended their advantage after 77 minutes when Mark Atkins headed home from Ian Woman's corner.

But three minutes later the Shrimpers pulled a goal back after Leon Drysdale fouled Tees Bramble inside the box.

The striker converted the resulting penalty, but Blues were unable to find a way past Shrews' goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin for a third time.
