Rochford Hundred members are tops when it comes to raising money for charity -- collecting well in excess of £12,000 this year.

This was revealed by club Captain Howard Southwood at the annual charity day.

Rochford have collected money for their main charity the Hamelin Trust who provide care and support in South-east Essex for mentally and physically handicapped children and adults.

They also handed over a cheque for £1,200 to a member Philip Powell who is undertaking an African trek in aid of children with Aids.

The club's money-spinning events have included a soccer match against Spurs Veterans, a sports celebrity/am and the main charity day last week.

Thirty-six teams took part in the big day and there was also a bumper raffle and an auction conducted by Richard Campbell-Carr.

The main competition -- a team 4's -- was a close run thing with the line-up of Howard Stone, Elaine Tucker, Colin Tucker and Matt Tucker just pipping Philip Henwood, Tom Wilson, Ian Harkness and Andy Sargent on countback after tying on 95 Stableford points.
