John Tremaine enjoyed a straight sets final victory to take the Westcliff Hardcourts' junior tournament under-18 boys title.
The 17-year-old Westcliff player, who is studying at Leys College, Cambridge, and is also an accomplished rugby player, defeated Joe Levey 6-0 6-1 at the end of the weeklong competition.
Sixteen-year-old Southend High School for Boys student Joe is just back from Spain, where he has been coached at the tennis school owned by Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario's family.
But the Thorpe Bay player can take some consolation in knowing that he claimed the only game that John dropped throughout the tournament.
Joe did claim two lots of silverware though, the first coming after defeating Hockley's John Weston 6-3 7-6 in the under-16 final.
He then teamed up with Wickford's Craig George to get revenge over John for that singles defeat, by beating him and Danny Edwards 6-2 6-4 in the under-18 doubles final.
