A Brentwood teacher says she has just learned an important lesson in lifecrime pays better than teaching.
The secondary school teacher - who does not wish to be named - was delighted to receive her share of a cash bonus awarded by the Government in recognition of her school's excellent performance.
But her joy was soon turned to bitter frustration after a sneaky thief stole her purse in Brentwood Post Office.
The woman said: "It was the first time I have had a bonus in my 32 year teaching career. It had been paid into my bank account and I withdrew £150 in cash to buy Euros because I am going on holiday."
She put her wallet on the counter at the post office and as she went to walk away discovered it had gone. Minutes later it was found dumped in the High Street minus the cash.
She said: "I have learned that crime pays and teaching doesn't. I want the people who do this sort of thing to think about who they are stealing from."
