New restrictions are being called for to stop a village becoming a speeding circuit.
George Elmer said children played in Parkeston streets and there was the potential for a fatal accident.
Mr Elmer said cars were now speeding through residential streets and on to the new slip road and port bypass.
He said now that Station Road would not be used by heavy port traffic, which has been diverted away from the village, it was time to get a 20mph limit.
The council agreed by four votes to two to look into getting sleeping policemen (speed bumps).
