Tendring has a new police chief.
Chief Supt Dick Madden will take up his new role, based at Clacton police station, on August 27.
The 49-year-old will succeed Chief Supt Patrick Rice, who is leaving to join Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary after two years in charge at Tendring.
Mr Madden has spent the past year on secondment as a trainer in command skills at the National Police Training Centre at Bramshill, Hampshire.
Before that he was in charge of major investigations from the incident room at Stanway, Colchester.
Married with four grown-up children, he is looking forward to the challenge.
"I have enjoyed my time at Bramshill and it has been beneficial but the opportunity to return to Essex to head Tendring division was one I could not resist," he said.
"I want to begin by assessing life in the Clacton and Harwich area and then forge a close bond with the community."
