Gulliver the tortoise's travels have proved fruitless in his search for love.
The 50-something hard-backed monster of love is now desperate for a mate after not seeing another tortoise for 20 years.
But he can only partner a tortoise of the same variety the Hermann's tortoise, which are normally found in southern and eastern Europe.
Owner Graham Orme, of Asquith Drive, Colchester, said: "For want of better words he is getting quite enthusiastic. He hasn't seen another tortoise for 20 years and he appears to be quite desperate."
Tortoises can live to more than 100 years old, so Gulliver is effectively approaching middle age, although they can breed well into old age.
"We need a female tortoise of a similar variety," said Mr Orme.
