One Witham secondary school expressed delight as its A-level pass rate soared
Rickstones School's results showed a greater increase in passes than schools nationally, which brought it in line with the national average of a 94 per cent pass rate.
Terry Canty, headteacher of the Conrad Road school, said: "We are in tune with the national results. They are our best-ever results at A-level and we've got a pass rate identical with the national average."
The John Bramston School, in Spinks Lane, Witham, was unable to supply detailed exam results today, but headteacher Ted Rowley said the new system had made things more complicated.
Braintree College students celebrated "excellent" A-level results with a 100 per cent pass rate in 17 subjects.
Felsted School's A-level results are the best the school has ever seen with the percentage of A and B grades rising to 64 per cent compared with 54 per cent last year.
The school achieved a record pass rate of 99 per cent and 82 per cent of all pupils achieved A, B and C grades.
Chelmsford County High School for Girls has again reported excellent A-level results, achieving a 99.4 per cent pass rate A to E, a slight improvement on last year.
