After a decade of hard-fought campaigning, the sight of HGVs crawling through village streets can be put to rest.
Parkeston bypass was officially opened yesterday, relieving residents of noisy traffic destined for Harwich International Port.
Peter Morton, chief operating officer of port owners Hutchison Ports (UK), and Anthony Peel, Essex County Council chairman, cut a ribbon to celebrate the opening of the £1 million road.
The port worked in partnership with Essex County Council to build the road. The final stage was completed in less than four months weeks ahead of schedule.
Andrew Harston, general manager of Harwich International Port, said: "We are delighted that the new road has been completed in such a short space of time and would like to thank all those who have worked so hard to make this possible. "
