Decathlete Dean Macey was sent reeling at Crowsheath Lake when he failed to connect with most of his nine runs in a 36-hour stay.
One of the fish dropped by the Canvey angler was a big cat that escaped after a surging run parted his line. Dean did manage two fish to a respectable 12lb.
Neville Clifford from Stock landed a 35lb catfish, his first from the Downham venue.
And John Portman from Hemel Hempstead was rewarded for his long drive with fish of 17, 15 and 13lbs.
The weekend's biggest carp went to Michael Kemp, who in a landed four specimens to a maximum of 18lb, although he lost the biggest fish of the day at the net.
Fourteen-year-old Murray Bass took a specimen of 15.08lb amongst three others in his first visit to the venue.
