Brightlingsea United's manager Jim Warnes has announced his resignation from the Jewson League division one side.

Warnes took the decision after Brightlingsea's 4-3 away defeat at Little Oakley at the weekend.

Warnes took over the North Road hot-seat last October when he replaced Ken Ballard.

During a disappointing campaign last season Brightlingsea finished second from bottom winning just nine of their 36 league games, conceding 104 goals in the process.

Warnes said: "It's because of a culmination of events. Due to a problem with the kit I turned up for the weekend game at Little Oakley 25 minutes before the game.

"Afterwards the players told me that it wasn't acceptable and that they wanted to see the chairman about a number of things. I contacted Michael Cole and he agreed to meet them. Back at the club the players then put across their point of view."

Warnes added: "I then gave the chairman my resignation. It's possible that some players at the club may now choose to leave."
