India are looking set to put on a big total in their match against Essex with a century from Shiv Das at Chelmsford.
At just after 5pm India were on 273-4 at the County Ground after winning the toss and electing to bat.
Das was the chief architect of the impressive first innings and was undefeated on 131 at just after 5pm today.
India have so far lost the wicket of Sanjay Banger who was bowled by James Middlebrook for 21.
Other wickets to fall on day one of the four-day match were those of Virender Sehwag (37), VVS Laxman (46) and Wasim Jaffer (19).
India will be looking to have a good workout before their next encounter with England after drawing the Second Test earlier in the week.
