Murder squad detectives were today questioning two men after a body was found on Southend seafront.
The man, who has not yet been identified, suffered serious facial injuries and was certified dead in Marine Parade early today.
Westbound traffic in Marine Parade was sealed off by police as forensic experts put special tents in place to cover the scene, on the stretch of seafront opposite the Hope Hotel.
A Southend police spokesman said: "Police discovered the man in Marine Parade around 2.30am.
"We contacted the ambulance service, which arrived at the scene and the man was certified dead. We have arrested two men in connection with the death of this man."
The two men arrested by police a short time after the body was found were today being quizzed by detectives. There have been no charges.
The dead man is believed to be from London and police were today making contact with his next of kin.
