The fate of a Salvation Army hall is to be decided tonight.
Chelmsford Borough Council will make a decision on the future of the hall, in Hullbridge Road, South Woodham Ferrers.
Along with an extension to the existing hall, the Salvation Army hopes to be granted permission to build a terrace of three houses on nearby land.
The final proposals have taken months to come before the council due to a lengthy consultation process being carried out.
A previous planning application was also withdrawn by developers following rows over safety and the use of the land.
The proposed development would see the existing hall extended at both the front and back and replacing an existing temporary classroom unit, which would be demolished.
Alongside the new buildings, a 16-space car park would be laid, including three places for the disabled.
Although the Salvation Army has found support with a 300-signature petition, Woodham Ferrers and Bicknacre Parish Council and some residents have voiced concern over the plans.
