A 93-year-old man has paid out £250 to a bogus builder.
The elderly pensioner, of Parson's Heath, Colchester, was visited by a man who said urgent roof repairs needed to be done.
He then looked at the roof and demanded the cash, which the elderly man paid.
A police spokesman said: "There was no sign of any work having been done."
Police have repeated warnings for people to be aware of bogus builders and gardeners who charge money and then do no work.
