Two drivers were today airlifted to hospital after a head-on collision.
Both drivers were trapped in their cars for more than an hour and had to be freed by firefighters.
The accident happened near Abberton Reservoir at 8.40am at Birch Road, between Birch and Great Wigborough.
Police closed the nearby stretch of Layer Road while emergency services were at the scene. Fire crews were called to free the two drivers who were trapped in an Audi A6 and a Vauxhall Astra for more than an hour.
The Essex Air Ambulance attended along with a road ambulance and a doctor. Both people, airlifted to Colchester General Hospital, sustained serious but not life-threatening leg and pelvis injuries.
