This success against Walsall was just what the doctor ordered for Ipswich Town.
Two goals, a clean sheet and professional display, not to mention starring roles for two teenage rookies, made it an encouraging afternoon at the Bescot Stadium.
Thomas Gaardsoe, Pablo Counago, Darren Bent and Darren Ambrose started and impressed, with the latter scoring his first goal on a memorable League debut.
The 18-year-old from Essex was one of the stars of pre-season, netting three goals, including a brace against Celta Vigo, but he saved his career-high for the 37th minute against the Saddlers.
Pal Darren Bent unleashed a low shot which keeper Jimmy Walker could only parry and there was Ambrose to rifle home the loose ball from six yards.
Town were worthy of their half-time lead and the points were sealed just after the hour mark when another star with a key role to play scored in spectacular fashion.
Jamie Clapham swung a cross in from the left in the 62nd minute, Darren Bent headed it back and namesake Marcus produced a magnificent overhead kick to beat Walker.
