Two dogs had to be rescued from a burning house after neighbours spotted smoke.
The dogs had been locked in the kitchen of the home in Ongar Road, Brentwood, while the owners went out.
But a fire started on the cooker and the dogs were not able to escape.
Two firefighters with breathing apparatus had to break into the kitchen to save the pets.
A spokesman said: "They are both OK now."
