Robber Barry Peart, who bungled a raid on a Pitsea jewellers, has been locked up for four years and nine months.
Peart, 20, terrified women assistants at Frederick James jewellers in Pitsea.
Peart, of no fixed address, was chased and caught, but another thief got clean away.
Peart, who apologised for frightening shop staff, pleaded guilty to robbery and was sent to a young offenders' institution.
