Southend's mayor Alan Crystall limbered up with hula dancers to celebrate new park play equipment.
Safety fencing and facilities for the disabled were also unveiled at Cluny Square Park in Southend.
The official opening was combined with a careers exhibition, called School's Out, at the nearby community information shop.
Ian Falconer, community development officer, said:"We were delighted the mayor stayed for over an hour talking to stallholders and people attending the event."
