Detectives are hunting two men who robbed a milkman at knifepoint as he was making early-morning deliveries in Westcliff.
The 33-year-old victim was on foot in Cranley Road, near the junction with London Road, when he was approached by the two strangers.
A spokesman for Southend police said: "At first the two men stopped him and asked him for a bottle of milk.
"Then one of the men pulled out a small kitchen knife and told the victim to hand over money."
The victim handed over a blue money bag which contained just £40 and both men then ran off down Valkyrie Road.
The knifeman was a slim to medium black man in his early twenties who was around 6ft 1ins tall.
He had dark eyes and black shaved hair, around grade one and wore jeans, a cap and a T-shirt.
The second man involved was slim and white, also in his early twenties.
He was around 5ft 9ins tall and had shaved fair hair and wore a casual blue tracksuit.
Anyone with information about the robbery at 6.45am on Saturday is asked to contact Southend police on 01702 431212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
