Rochford-born sharpshooter Nigel Wallace returned from retirement to hit the Commonwealth Games bullseye and win a bronze medal.
But Wallace's hopes of another medal were dashed when he came joint 13th with a Kiwi called Grummit.
The 35-year-old BT manager helped Chris Hector take third spot in the 10 metres air rifle pairs at Bisley with a combined score of 1,160 points.
The duo had won gold in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, but Nigel's achievement this time was in many ways just as impressive.
He only made his decision to come back from retirement at Christmas and had to turn to shooting partner Chris for help because he had no equipment.
Said Nigel: "I consider Chris deserves all the credit for the medal. He really helped me. I had to beg, steal and borrow from him just to compete here."
Nigel, who lives in Suffolk, was unable to secure a second medal yesterday in the 10-metre air rifle singles event.
