The former fire station at Wivenhoe could be turned into a pair of flats.
The fire station was sold off by Essex County Council in 1997 after the new one was opened in Colchester Road.
Lexden Restorations has applied to Colchester Council for planning permission to change the use of the fire station into flats, a shared garden and parking at the rear.
A spokesperson for Wivenhoe Town Council said details of the planning application had not yet reached the council.
