Security fencing may go up around a primary school complex in Colchester at a cost of £37,500
It is hoped the move will stop problems caused by "evening visitors" to Prettygate Junior and Infants' Schools in Plume Avenue who leave behind a trail of damage.
The schools have applied to Colchester Council for a new security fence and gates, together with a widening of the existing vehicle access plus fencing to the north and south boundaries.
If approved, Essex County Council will contribute £21,000 and the schools will pay the rest.
A spokesperson for Essex County Council said: "It is regretful that these steps have to be taken, but our schoolchildren are better protected now than they have ever been."
