A campaign is under way to safeguard the future of Southend's New Empire Theatre.
Petitions have been drawn up and councillors are being lobbied as director Julie Robertson moves to save the playhouse, in Alexandra Street, and buy it.
Earlier this week it emerged the owners of the theatre were planning to sell up - thus threatening the future of dance schools who use it.
Shay Properties were unavailable for comment.
