A total of 100 balloons were released in the centre of Southend as part of a special promotion that aims to spread a touch of Easter cheer.
The promotion, organised by the Chicago Rock Cafe in Warrior Square in conjunction with Cadburys, will reward those who catch the balloons with a tempting offer of chocolate or drinks.
Iain Parry, assistant manager at the Southend bar, said: "It is to promote the fact that we are open as normal over the Easter period."
