Retailers have given a council a "pat on the back" for steam cleaning Braintree town centre.
High pressure washers were brought in to get rid of the chewing gum in Braintree two weeks ago.
Teams used special steam washers to blitz the sticky problem, in High Street, Bank Street and New Street as part of a five day operation.
Contractors for Braintree Council worked throughout the night to minimise disruption for shoppers. The operation was funded by the Braintree Area Forum and was carried out as a result of member suggestions.
Two weeks later, town centre traders say the town is looking much better.
Derek Salmon, manager of George Yard Shopping Centre, said: "The town looks a lot nicer and cleaner now that the chewing gum has gone from the pavements.
"I think the council deserves a pat on the back for its hard work."
Ken Game, chairman of the Town Centre Strategy Group, said: "I'd like to say thanks to them for what they have done."
