Brian Baldrey, 59, was given a royal reception as he travelled in for his last day at Ashingdon School in Fambridge Road.
After clopping his way into the premises, Brian was met by pupils, staff and parents who all gave him a warm reception for his years of service.
Brian said: "It was a complete surprise, and I enjoyed it immensely. I felt like royalty!"
He will be replaced by Anne Stewart, who takes over after Easter.
