In a hard-fought match between England and arch rivals Holland, the Brits have finally walked off with the cup. Not in football - but in herring eating.
Down the hatch - competitors do their best at Heybridge at the weekend
The regulars at the Old Ship in Heybridge Basin have an annual battle against Dutch visitors to see which team can down the most raw salted herrings in 30 minutes.
The boys from Holland traditionally wolf down the most, but this year it was the English who proved their fishy prowess.
The stomach-churning competition ties in with a weekend of sea shanties and celebrations at the pub.
Dutch sailors moor their boats in the village, with others making the journey by ferry to join in the entertainment.
Landlord Mark Killick said his team of three were rightly proud to have taken the title from the Dutch.
"The Dutch always win, but this year it was England 42, Holland 40.
"There was a lot of pride at stake. We've had our boys and girls in training this year. It was serious."
