A 77-year-old woman was left shaken after her purse was knocked out of her hand and stolen outside a newsagents in Shoebury.
The woman, who recently lost her husband, was standing outside the Longstaffs shop in West Road on Wednesday at 2.15pm when she was approached by a white man aged about 19.
The man knocked the woman's red leather purse from her hand and ran off towards Ness Road. The suspect was described as being 6ft tall, with dark hair, of slim build and wearing a black jacket and grey trousers.
The purse contained £70 in cash and credit and bank cards.
