Police removed a group of travellers who had been occupying waste industrial land in West Thurrock for a month.
Around 25 officers arrived at the encampment in Oliver Road, at 7.45am yesterday, to ensure the travellers moved on. Officers had served a notice on the group - about 20 men, women and children who had been at the site - the night before.
A spokesman for Essex Police said that over recent weeks there had been various public order problems and they had worsened in the past few days.
The landowner had been due to go to court that day to get an order, but the public nuisance problems had risen so far that it was decided to take quick police action.
