A St John Ambulance volunteer was being made a serving brother of the Order of St John today for his "service to mankind".
Hugh Hunter, of Wickford, has been with St John Ambulance for 15 years and his award was approved by the Queen, who is head of the order.
He was being presented with an insignia by Lord Slynn of Hadley at the Grand Priory Church, Clerkenwell.
