Clacton boss Mick Potter saw his side 'massacre' the opposition but they still went down to a single goal.

Potter, whose Seasiders lost only their third league game this season, said: "They only created two chances and scored with their second. Other than that we were in total control.

"I know we lost but I can take a lot of positives from last night's game."

Clacton reverted to a 4-4-2 formation with Paul Hillier filling in at the unfamiliar role of left-back.

Potter added: "With us secure in fourth place I decided to experiment. We may need to change the way we play in games to come so it was an ideal opportunity.

"Paul Hillier was outstanding on the left side of defence. With his ability I knew he could do a job for me."

Yarmouth's goal arrived with 15 minutes to go. A swift counter-attack was worked across the penalty area before being dispatched into the corner.

Clacton's closest efforts came from the boots of Sean Hillier and Jimmy Clewley. Both were denied by the woodwork.

Overall Potter was impressed by the way in which his new-look team performed.

He continued: "We passed the ball extremely well. I know it's how I like the team to play anyway, but with the new style it was especially pleasing.

"Our movement caused them all sorts of problems. With the quality we have, we're always likely to do that."

The Seasiders will have their chance to put this defeat behind them when they entertain Fakenham Town at the Rush Green Bowl on Saturday.
