People at the central area assembly in Grays had hoped to focus on the public transport and parking problems surrounding Orsett and Basildon Hospitals.
The issue had been raised at the assembly's first meeting, but nobody from the Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals NHS Trust was available to attend on Friday.
Instead residents of Grays and Little Thurrock heard Nick Roberts from Thurrock Council explain the difficulties faced in persuading private bus companies to route their vehicles to the hospitals.
He said the council subsidised one route - the 389 - and that the JWS route 320 from Tilbury visited both hospitals. The company was also about to introduce a 300 service, which would also take in Grays and Chadwell St Mary.
The meeting agreed that the trust should be invited back to its next meeting to give its side of the story.
