Southend High School's Adam Hickey gained the recognition all athletes crave when he capped another outstanding cross-country season by winning international recognition.
Hickey, 13, a leading member of Southend Athletic Club, finished second in the junior boys at the English Schools Championships at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, and now runs for England in the home internationals, being staged in Derby on Saturday.

Hickey, who finished runner-up at Chelmsford, will be joined on the day by Thurrock Harrier Andrew Livingstone, who goes to The Grays School. He took third place.
