George Burley believes struggling Ipswich Town still need to accumulate 40 points in their quest to avoid relegation from the Premiership.

The Blues boss has refused to amend his target in light of recent results, which included a run of four straight defeats before Saturday's draw at Newcastle.

Town have eight games left and will have to take points off sides fighting at either end of the table if they are to reach 40 points.

And they have an ominous run-in that includes games against Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

Nevertheless, Burley said: "Games are creeping up on us and we know the importance of them all.

"Our target is still 40 points and every match is vital, regardless of what position in the table our opponents are."

Ipswich entertain Aston Villa in their next Premiership match on Saturday.

Jermaine Wright is the only injury worry, although he is set to shake off a groin problem in time for the clash at Portman Road.

"Every team goes out wanting to win and Villa will be no different," added Burley. "They are a very skilful side who still have a chance of qualifying for Europe."
