Talks are set to take place to encourage more tourists to Harwich.
DFDS launched its Harwich-Cuxhaven route recently, the only direct passenger shipping route from England to Germany.
It shaves three hours off the original crossing time to Hamburg and DFDS bosses said it would mean a multi-million boost for the tourism trade.
Many visitors come on a mini-cruise with only a limited time in England and tourist bosses are keen to capitalise on the new market.
Harwich town centre manager Tony Whitmarsh said he had written to DFDS asking for talks, so ways of getting visitors into the town could be discussed.
Mr Whitmarsh raised the issue at a recent Chamber of Trade meeting. If all goes to plan guided tours could be given and there would be vouchers for shops and restaurants.
In addition, the town's ship-to-shop scheme for crews is set to continue this year.
Mr Whitmarsh said bus company GER would be approached with the idea of giving discount vouchers for the crews to use on regular buses rather than hire a bus, which was not always cost-effective.
