Chelmsford MP Simon Burns is not convinced by government assurances about telephone communication masts near schools.
A recent government-commissioned report which tested a selection of masts on or near school sites found they were well within guidelines on radiation emissions.
Parents in Great Waltham are currently fighting moves by Orange to site a mast opposite the local primary school.
Mr Burns said the news would not reassure parents because there were so many conflicting reports.
He said: "Given the trouble we have experienced n Chelmsford with masts erected in residential areas I believe they should not be erected near schools, hospitals or in residential areas.
"I believe there is an overwhelming case for England to follow the example of Scotland and give local communities a far greater voice to stop the invasion of poorly located masts.
"We should give power to the people so they have a greater say in protecting their quality of life and their local environment."
